Ahh, work. We all love work, don’t we? I mean, the majority of us are doing it… we would have to love it, right? WRONG.
Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.
We do it for survival. Yes, people actually work in sewage… for survival.
A bajillion years ago we were hunting and gathering… and now we are here. Standing in shit.
OR, if you are like me, you are letting someone yell at you and call you worthless, and responding with, “I understand and I hear you, how can I make this situation better for you?” Because, you guessed it, I work in… CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Specifically, a Call Center.
I do Live Chat and digital work, like emails, secure messages, and Agent Support. And I am sorry, but when you have 3 chats, and one person is yelling at you, one person has a complicated issue you are trying to solve (because let’s be honest, sometimes it’s a mystery to Customer Service too), and one person is asking for the 5th time for you to explain the same concept in a different way because they didn’t understand you the first 4 times… SOMETIMES you think to yourself… “What the fuck am I doing?”
And let’s go farther than that. We get so caught up in work being the most important thing we are doing. And yes, it IS important. But is it really the most important? It takes up so much of our time. That is a fact, and in the world we live in (and again, that is why I ask, what are WE doing?) it is needed for survival of not only ourselves, but those we love.
But let’s look at the big picture here.
Take a step back with me, sit down, grab some popcorn, and enjoy the show!
Because news flash, the time we spend with our loved ones shouldn’t be filled with stress from WORK. We are there enough as it is.
Easier said than done, I get that. But sometimes mindset can help, even if just a little bit, with what we are focused on.
We only have a little bit of time here in this life. Time is limited and therefore extremely valuable. In my opinion, more valuable than what we agree to be compensated, but that rant is for another day.
So do me a favor, and I will try this too.
Ask yourself at the end of the day, why are we doing this?
Survival.
And then ask yourself, why do I want to survive?
For most of us, that answer is LOVE.
So enjoy the love when you are there, in it, experience it for real without letting ANYTHING interrupt it.
Because love.
THAT is the most important thing.
P.S. I have good news, this is just the beginning! So make sure you check back in for more!
Love always and forever,
Danene
